Exothermic Bonding/Welding

Exothermic Bonding/Welding

Exothermic bonding or Thermite welding, this process is used where arc welding may induce to much heat in the joint and is often used for joining cables, as it doesn’t weaken the electrical conductivity in copper wiring since no other metal or alloy is required. When aluminium powder is used alongside a metal oxide, the process creates what is called an aluminothermic reaction.

Exothermic welding requires no external source of heat or current, instead using molten metal that has been heated by a chemical exothermic reaction of a thermite. This can create electrically-sound molecular bonds that are resistant to changes in temperature and not susceptible to the corrosion problems found with mechanical or compression components.

Description

We use different type of Molds for Exothermic Welding. The Molds comes in various sizes based on type of joints.  For every different type of joint – Different Graphite Moulds are used. Based on the joint – the Exothermic Weld powder quantity is decided and accordingly the Mold is designed for Exothermic Welding. The few common joints as follows

1)     Cable To Cable Joints

2)     Cable to Rod Joints

3)     Cable To Bar Joints

4)     Bar to Bar Connections (BB)

5)     Bar To Ground Rod Connections (BR)

Apart from the Exothermic joint, we use the different clumps and cable Lugs for the earthing bar/cable and/or ground road connection. Detail in the picture
