Surge Protection Device Type-II (LT Switchgear, SDB, 8/20μs)

Surge Protection Device Type-II (LT Switchgear, SDB, 8/20μs)

A SPD is usually installed in LT Switchgear (Class B), Electrical Distribution System (Class C) and communications structures, process control systems, other substantial industrialized systems (Class D).

Description

A Surge Protection Devices (SPD) is an electrical device that is used to protect equipment against power surges and voltage spikes while blocking voltage over a safe threshold. Without a SPD, can create component issues, as permanent damage, reduced lifespan of internal devices, burned wires and data loss.
A SPD is usually installed in LT Switchgear (Class B), Electrical Distribution System (Class C) and communications structures, process control systems, other substantial industrialized systems (Class D).
The SPD Types described below are in accordance (paraphrased from) with UL 1449 Third Edition.

Type-2 SPDs: Surge Protection Device Type-2 (LT Switchgear, SDB, 8/20μs current wave)

Permanently connected, hard-wired SPDs intended for installation on the load side of the main service equipment over current protective device. These SPDs may also be installed at the main service equipment, but must be installed on the load side of the main service over current protective device. Type 2 SPD is characterized by an 8/20 μs current wave.
